The 2019 World Youth Chess Championship holds for the first time in India

The World Youth Championships 2019 come for the first time in India, and the opening ceremony took place on the 1st of October 2019 at the Convention centre of the Renaissance Hotel in Mumbai.

The championship is of 11 rounds with the first-round starting today the 2nd of October 2019 and will hold every day all through till Saturday the 12th of October 2019 which will be the 11th and final round. The event would come to its final conclusion on the 13th of October 2019.

According to the press release made on the tournament official website http://worldyouthchess.com, Six world crowns will be at stake as six titles are up for grabs for both boys and girls at the prestigious World Youth Chess Championship.

As many as 66 countries and 56 title-holders, including three Grand Masters, under the ages of under-14,16 and 18 will be seen in action over the next fortnight.

India’s latest sensation and the world’s second youngest Grand Master Praggnanandhaa R will be the star attraction as he would lead the challenge at the event in what is the biggest chess tournament ever held in India. Sargsyan Shant (Armenia) and Iniyan P (India) will be the other GMs in the fray.

The dignitaries present at the opening ceremony were Ravindra Dongre (tournament director), Harish Mehta (Founding member of Nasscom), Pravin Jain (Chairman of the organizing committee), Dr. Pallavi Darade (Commissioner, Food & Drug Administration), Rahul Shah (President of AMCA), Keshav Murugesh (CEO of WNS and Chairman of Nasscom), D.V. Sundar (Vice-President FIDE), Bharat Singh Chauhan (Secretary AICF).
