The Go for Nigerian Chess Grandmaster Initiative Nigeria in collaboration with the Go for West Africa Chess Grandmaster Initiative starts its chess tournament today. The Sani Mohammed Everyday of the Week Chess Tournament would start on the 1st of August 2019 at Peda chess academy in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria.
Although chess sport in Nigeria has grown to the extent that it has made its mark globally, gaining recognition both locally and internationally. This has been proven in the recently published statistic of the world chess federation (FIDE) listing names of top Nigerian chess players but still, more could be done. The Sani Mohammed Everyday of the Week Chess Tournament is an initiative hoping to bring more recognition for chess players. The tournament is meant to boost the FIDE rating of chess players in Nigeria and West Africa as a whole.

Thursday: Blazing Kings Club 28 Tokunbo Ojo, Ibadan, Oyo State
Friday: GodFather Lounge Gambit Chess Club Gwarinpa Abuja
Saturday: Gowon Estate Chess Club Egbeda Lagos State
Sunday: Lekki Chess Club Cvilla Resort Abraham Adesanya, Ajah, Lekki Lagos State
