“The greatest real thrill that life offers is to create, to construct, to develop something useful. Too often we fail to recognize and pay tribute to the creative spirit. It is that spirit that creates our jobs.” Alfred P. Sloan
On July 25, 2017, I was at University of Abuja to discuss “Scholastic Opportunities” for chess players, “Yemi Fawole Chess Foundation” & Personal life with the Director of Sports, Coach Sule Mohammed.
Just like the very first time i met him through one of my friends (Akande Azeez) concerning my admission into university of Abuja, Coach Sule welcomed me with open arms. While I wasn’t around to proof my chess abilities, he still gave me an opportunity without benefit of doubts. Yes, I gained admission through Sports to study Computer Science while I had not even moved a pawn.
On that epoch-making day in 2010, I decided to play a three (3) board blindfolded simultaneous chess with some of my new teammates as I was new to the system. Coach Sule was wowed as Simul Chess ended 3-0 in my favor. I became University of Abuja chess celeb there after.
It didn’t take long before I was offered to be The Chess Captain–University Of Abuja Chess Team. Throughout my stay as Chess Captain, I didn’t lose a game in classical time control in any of the tournaments organized at University Of Abuja.
Coach Sule will ensure that University of Abuja sponsors me to National tournaments. Not everyone had that kind of rare privilege. I am glad I didn’t disappoint as I did well in most tournaments I participated in. I left University of Abuja better than I used to be.
Many thanks to Coach Sule for making a difference. You are truly amazing sir and would always be remembered. This morning, I thoughts about the Good deeds of Coach Sule Mohammed during his short lived life. May his gentle soul continue to rest well.
