A brief report on Saturday 31st of October, 2020 blitz weekend reporting from Yenagoa.

A total of 30 participants took part in this weekend’s encounter out of which 10 were juniors.

Yet again, we had our visitor FM Abimbola Osunfuyi to contend with and of course, the result was a little bit different from the last event.

Let’s take a quick look at how things finished on Saturday.

2nd position Hector Godswill 13yrs (4points)

3rd Abner Quickpen 5yrs (4points)

2nd Kigigha Bomo (7.5points)

3rd Sunny Okpapko (7points)

A total of 9rounds was played in an open event.
Winners in each category emerged from the total number of matches drawn, lost or won.

Our special guest Abimbola Osunfuyi has promised to make Bayelsa his tourist destination provided chess is been played regularly like this.

Major upset in the tournament was 12year old Marvelous defeating 2time Olympian FM Yinka Adesina.

Preparation is in top-gear for next week’s showdown and also the mega event (monthly championship) on the 14th of November which would be rated by the world governing body (FIDE).

May we also use this opportunity to thank Mr Miebi Dudiefa for his continuous support throughout these times. We now know the level of love you have for chess and your state, Bayelsa.

See you again next weekend.
Thank you
