Osadebe Michael Emerged Victorious in the Danhypro-Toco Under 20 Chess Championship

The Danhypro Toco Juniors initiative is making waves in the Nigerian chess scene, offering young players a platform to shine as Osadebe Michael Ikechuwku, a standout player emerges as the winner of the championship, after leading the ‘pack’ after nine intense rounds of the championship. His strategic skills and determination resemble that of grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi according to Chief Whales’ comment.

The tournament that held at Cafe One, Sterling Bank District, Abuja, from the 1st to the 4th of May, 2024, was a delightful experience for the juniors. Alongside intense matches, they have enjoyed treats like ice creams and delicious meals during their breaks.

In a nail-biting 10th round, Osadebe faced off against Thompson Richard from Lagos, a formidable opponent with 6.5 points. The competition is fierce, with Alagoa Kere, also known as Kereshady, and Afolabi Emmanuel, hot on Osadebe‘s heels. Osadebe Michael claimed the N500,000 first prize and was crowned the Danhypro-Toco Junior Champion of 2024.
