Enyonam Sewa Fumey resigns as FIDE’s General Secretary, switches to FIDE Social Commission

Togolese Chess Federation President—Enyonam Sewa Fumey, who held the position of FIDE General Secretary for 2 years and 7 months has resigned. Fumey held the position since elections at the 43rd chess Olympiad, Batumi, Georgia from 3rd October, 2018 till 15th May, 2021.

Enyonam Sewa Fumey made his decision known to FIDE leadership in a letter dated 15th May, 2021.

Part of the letter reads I truly believe that chess used for social goodwill allows us to bring our beautiful game beyond the borders of professional sports. I sincerely hope this mutual agreement between me and the FIDE leadership will produce good fruits and allow me to fully use my energy for the promotion of chess

He will continue to be a part of FIDE as he made the switch to FIDE Social Commission where he would be able to use his expertise for social development of chess.

The position of FIDE General Secretary remains vacant till FIDE announce the new FIDE Council General Secretary.

Enyonam Sewa Fumey stated in a facebook post:

We wish him success in his new role as a member of FIDE Social Commission.
