The 35th edition of the Reykjavik Open 2020 was to be held from April 17th until April 24th, 2020 in Harpa, the 28.000 sq. m. concert- and conference hall in downtown Reykjavik. The tournament has been the flagship of Icelandic chess for many years and one of the most prestigious and well like open tournaments on the calendar every year.

It is with a heavy heart that the organizers of the 2020 Reykjavik Open have decided that it’s at this moment the best decision to cancel the Reykjavik Open 2020. This is in line with recent cancellations of high-level events in Dubai and Thailand.

The continued worldwide spread and travel restrictions in connection with the coronavirus (COVID-19) have led to this decision. The decision is taken with the safety and well-being of our prospective competitors and staff. The decision was taken after consulting with national medical authorities and of course after careful deliberation.

The process of reimbursing entry fees will be starting immediately next week.
