Levon Aronian wins the 2019 Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz. The tournament which was held on the 10th to 15th of August 2019 is the fourth event in the 2019 Grand Chess Tour schedule, it also marks the mid-way point of the regular season events this year.

There were 10 participants including GM Magnus Carlsen. Other participants include; GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, GM Fabiano Caruana, GM Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, GM Ding Liren, GM Sergey Karjakin, GM Leinier Dominguez, GM Yu Yangyi, GM Richard Rapport and the champion of the event, GM Levon Aronian.

Levon Aronian, the Armenian chess player was awarded the title Grandmaster by FIDE in 2000. He was ranked number two in the world in the 2014 FIDE rating list and had an Elo rating of 2830, making him the fourth highest-rated player in history. He had also won the FIDE World Cup in 2005 and 2017.

Levon Aronian’s prize for being the winner of the 4th leg of the Grand Chess Tour Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz 2019 is a sum of $37.500 and 13 GCT points. Ding Liren, Yu Yangyi, and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave had a tie for the second position, just half a point behind the winner. Magnus Carlsen, however, made it to the 5th position after losing as many as 10 games of rapid and blitz.
