The African Chess Confederation announces its upcoming event hosted by Ghana Chess Association, inviting all African Chess Federations affiliated with FIDE to participate in the 2024 African Individual Chess Championship coming up on the 12th of March to the 21st of March, 2024 at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, Accra, Ghana.
The championship event will be in two exciting sections:
The Open Section, and the Women’s Section, providing a stage for players of various categories to showcase their skills.
Duration of the event will be in 9 rounds, adopting a SWISS system format.
Eligibility criteria for the event include;
Grandmasters, Women Grandmasters and Women International Masters are eligible.
National Federation can also enlist up to 5 players in each section, with additional benefits for the host country (can enter up to 10 players in each section and also can add an additional player).
The winners of the 2023 African Zonal Championship are also eligible to participate in the championship with free accommodation, but only after paying the registration fees.
Each participating federation can nominate one official player per section, entitled to free board and lodging.
PAYMENT
Every players and officials are expected to pay $60 to register and it should be noted that participants are responsible for their travel expenses. However, free transfers are provided from Kotoka International Airport upon arrival and departure.
Officials and additional players from each federation must pay a $50 ACC Tournament fee.
Payments are to be made into the Ghana Chess Association account by the stipulated deadlines, failure to comply may result in non-participation (No refund for registration or ACC tournament fees, should in case of a no-show) and extra nights before or after March 21st would incur additional charges.

The winners of the upcoming event, of the Open Section and Women section will be awarded the FIDE Titles of Grandmaster and the Women International Grandmasters (WGM) respectively; provided that the players obtained the minimum ratings of GM (2300) and WGM (2100) respectively.
Other titles will be awarded in accordance with FIDE regulations and the winners in each category will also be awarded with the title of the 2024 African Individual Chess Championship.
It is important to note that, FIDE Laws of Chess applies, with no analysis made during play, Flash photography will also be limited, and only players and arbiters would be allowed in the playing area.
The deadline for the entry forms MUST be filled before the 20th of February, 2024.
The completed registration form must include the surnames, first names, FIDE titles, FIDE ID number, FIDE rating and total number of players and accompanying persons. The completed form must also include the names, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of the Head of Delegation and of the person in charge of the federation.
