Dr. Lyndon Bouah‘s love affair with chess began in 1983 when he received a chess set as a Christmas gift from his parents. However, it wasn’t until he joined Bethelsdorp Senior Secondary School in 1986 that his passion for the game truly ignited. Under the guidance of teacher John Ritchie and uncle Lionel Hiles, he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming captain of the school team at just 14 years old.

Throughout his high school years, he represented Eastern Province in national championships, winning individual and team titles. He credits his teachers and mentors for instilling in him a love for the game and valuable life skills. “The teachers at Bethelsdorp have all played a significant role in my life… I did not realise that I was being groomed for leadership in life,” Dr. Lyndon reminisces.
