In the North Central region, the 2024 North Central Zonal Chess Championship that brought together finest and smart minds, organised by Nigeria Chess Federation in conjunction with Jollof Chess Foundation, on the 25th of July at Package B, National Stadium, Abuja, with each of the players determined to claim the coveted title, was concluded on the 28th of July, 2024.
Round after round, Bartholomew Emmanuel OKHIPO with a hunger for victory, demonstrated his skills, and played with his prepared opponents strategically. After playing in 9 rounds, Okhipo emerged victorious in the championship, finishing with 8 points.
But he was not alone in his pursuit of glory, Othman Mustapha pushed Okhipo to his limits, and finished in the second place with 7.5 points.
Meanwhile, Tyowase Tyover Collins, at just 16 years old, played impressively also and secured the third position, finishing with 7 points. His impressive performance earned him the coveted title of Best Junior.
As the tournament drew to a close, other stories of victories also was noted, as Toryila Promise TYOWASE, a 13 years old, claimed the Best Under 14 award and finished as the second-best junior. Mardhiyyah Kehinde ABDUSSALAM, a chess queen in her own right, also took home the Best Lady title.
