Dear friends.
It has now been two months since I launched my book called My Journey. Thank you to all who bought copies and thank you for the nice comments. In this journey which I am enjoying I have made many new friends and made many new discoveries as well.
Dr Omar Esau invited my wife Denise and myself to a book chat at Timbuktu Books in Sybrand Park last month. We thoroughly enjoyed it and met many new authors. I met Yusuf Daniels and Gasant Abarder. They recently published their own books and we exchanged our respective copies.

I love the stories of Yusuf Daniels and I am now the proud owner of all three his books. This is my summary of his last two books.
Living Lekka (from Mitchells Plain to Aeroplane) by Yusuf Daniels (YDP 2020)
I enjoyed this second offering from Yusuf Daniels. He regales us with stories from his student days at Pentech to his first jobs and corporate stuff. The stories are relatable, and I highly recommend this book for a present and to simply celebrate a good laugh with a great author.
Living the Hustle (Dala what you must) by Yusuf Daniels (YDP, 2021)
In this third offering, Yusuf Daniels tells the audience about his hustling days and all his adventures. You will enjoy the stories! Add this to your collection! He personally signed this and said I must stay lekka!
Gasant Abarder was the editor of the two major newspapers in Cape Town. Do make time to read his book. This is my summary of his book.

Abarder regales us with stories from his newspaper. He was editor of the Cape Argus, Voice and the
Cape Times. I enjoyed his stories and his perspective on things. I loved this quote from his book :
“Celebrated Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie reminded us of the power and the importance of storytelling during a Ted talk in 2009. She said: Many stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign. But stories can also be used to empower, and to humanise. Stories can break the dignity of a people. But stories can also repair that broken dignity.”
I have also recently found out that two persons that I have known for some time are also poets. Both are former prison wardens and I wish them well as they traverse this world of poetry.

Geisoleerde Nadenke by Manfred Jacobs ( 2021)
Manfred Jacobs has put a collection of poetry together that is intensely moving. Manfred is a natural storyteller and has now put his thoughts on paper. (Gavin Joachims Publishing). The poems cover the entire spectrum of his life. A must read !
Vir my ma – Samuel Theron(Gavin Joachim Publishing, 2019)
Theron, who is a former prison warden, has published a collection of poems in English and Afrikaans. He uses his life experience to give us his impressions. I am enjoying the poems and am taking my time to read it!

Theron in his latest offering continues to offer his perspectives on matters affecting South Africa and the world.
I have also recently made friends with Eddie Bhila. He is from Mpumalanga and has recently published four books. The first one is a monograph on how to play chess. He adds some of his own notes and new coaches will find it useful. His second book I enjoyed immensely.

The author has used his own experience to amplify the rules of chess. He adds some practical examples that new coaches can use. 39 pages)
The Coach : Life Adventures through Chess by Eddie Bhila (2019)
The author uses his own life experiences of training youngsters and the trials and tribulations that they go through. He sketches their travels and preparations to national events such as the National Junior chess Championships and also what it means for many of the youngsters to compete in the events. I enjoyed the book as I could relate to it.
I have not read his third book yet which is called The Black Chronicles – reflections from the dark side by Eddie Bhila. His fourth book was published this week and is called Healing Through Stories.
The last book that I enjoyed was a book called The Subtle Art of Not giving a F…ck by Mark Manson

The book made quite an impression on me. The author says you must decide what makes sense to you and what you must care about. There are some things that you should not care about. One must concentrate on what is important. A bit like Malcolm Gladwell’s writings so if you enjoy that genre then you will enjoy this! Well written and recommended!
I am currently in discussion with some bookstores to also carry my books but I am pleased to inform you that Timbuktu Books in Sybrand Park has copies of the books written by Dr Denise Bouah and myself. Do pop around there when you have a moment. It has many books by local authors.
