Chess Kenya has finalized the list of National team players for the upcoming 44th Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India, following the final selection process in January 2022. Benard Wanjala—Chess Kenya President, made this known in a Facebook post dated April 28, 2022 on Chess Kenya Facebook page.
To achieve more remarkable results at the Olympiad, Chess Kenya secured the services of GM Marian Petrov (2462) from Bulgaria.
Marian Petrov is a FIDE trainer, an accomplished professional chess coach, theorist, and two-time Bulgarian Chess Champion (2002 and 2017). Petrov is a winner of many open tournaments around the world.
He was the coach of the team of Wales at the last two Olympiads, Baku 2016. Petrov graduated from the National Sports Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria, with a Bachelor’s degree in Chess Pedagogy, a four-year undergraduate program designed to prepare top-level chess trainers.
Also, Ben Magana has been promoted to captain for the Open Section.
