The Nigerian chess prodigy, and Founder of Chess in Slums, Africa, Tunde Onakoya, has gathered overwhelming support as he continues on his journey to break the Guinness World Record. Notable celebrities & figures such as Nigeria’s Consul-General in New York City, Ambassador Peter Egopija, activist Omoyele Sowore, and Chess celebrities/ Nigerian Chess Champions- FM Adebayo Adegboyega, and WIM Labake Coker, have thrown their weight behind Onakoya‘s ambitious quest.
Recently, Tunde Onakoya also received a surprise visit from the Nigerian singers; Adekunle Gold and David Adeleke (Davido), as well as the members of the 30BG (Davido’s) crew at the chess-playing venue. There was a buzz of excitement as he displayed his skills, defeating another chess master with 13 brilliant moves during a street challenge in New York.
Adekunle Gold‘s support extended beyond mere presence, as he generously donated thousands of dollars, brand new iPads, and other equipment to aid Onakoya’s quest. This gesture was lauded by popular influencer, highlighting Adekunle Gold’s commitment to Tunde Onakoya‘s Guinness World Record attempt.
In addition, The President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima have also expressed their admiration for his resilience and representation of Nigeria on the global stage. The Nigerian President encouraged Onakoya to “Checkmate the world,” while Vice President Shettima praised his excellence and humanitarian interventions.
