The 18th edition of Gibraltar Chess Festival, opens today in Caleta Hotel, in Gibraltar.
The festival comprises Masters, Challenger and Amateurs tournament. Masters tournament, which gathered 239 players coming from 55 federations, will be played in 10 rounds, Swiss system, with rate of play: 40 moves in 100 minutes plus 20 moves in 50 minutes plus 15 minutes for all remaining moves with 30 seconds per move added from the start.
The very strong line-up of 211 titled players is led by: Mamedyarov Shakhriya (AZE, 2770), Vachier-Lagrave Maxime (FRA, 2770), Wang Hao (CHN, 2758), Topalov Veselin (ECU, 2738), Navara David (CZE, 2717) and many others world known Grandmasters.
The total prize fund of the event crosses 170.000 £ , with 30.000 £ reserved for the winner of the event, and 20.000 £ reserved for the best ranked women player.
