IM Providence Oatlhotse and WGM Tuduetso Sabure Wins the 2019 Gaborone International Open Chess Championship

The 2019 Gaborone International Open Chess Championship started on the 27 of July 2019 and came to a successful conclusion on the 28 of July 2019.  It was organized by the Botswana chess federation with Lesego Selemogwe as the Chief Arbiter, Tingwane Mokwaledi as the Deputy Chief Arbiter and was sponsored by Kalahari Associates.

On the list were high profile chess competitors for both male and female category but only two respectively emerged as winners of the tournament.

For the final standing, IM Providence Oatlhotse wins the championship trophy, earning himself a gold medal and P3000.00. In 2012, he got his IM title after winning the African Individual Chess Championships (Zone 4.3) Open section and the CM title in the 39th Olympiad Khanty-Mansiysk 2010 Open tournament. Coming second for the Gaborone International Open Chess Championship was FM Phemelo Khetho, winning the silver medal and third place was CM Mosutha Thuso.

For the women’s category, WGM Tuduetso Sabure emerges as the winner, earning herself a medal and P2000.00. She earned her Botswana Woman Grandmaster in 2015. Coming second in the championship was WFM Naledi Marape winning the silver medal and the third place was won by Thandie Bonno.
