The Bayelsa state chess association BYSCA, will be organizing the December edition of Bayelsachess-Danhypro monthly rapid chess championship.
The one-day rapid event is scheduled to hold on the 19th of December, 2020 at the multipurpose hall of the Sampson Siasia stadium in Ovom-Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
The November 14th edition which took place at same venue saw 73 participants from all over the country competing in the same venue (COVID19 protocols duly observed) with FM Kigigha Bomo emerging as the overall winner with 8.5 out of 9games.
The Christmas edition promises to be more intriguing with top chess players in the country showing interest by penning down their registration. Top on the list is 2 time Olympian, FM Adeyinka Adesina ( Elo 2193). Others are Tennyson Olisa (Delta State) who placed overall 2nd in the November edition.
There will be much to watch out for as over 20 junior players from Bayelsa will be aspiring to make a name for themselves. Top local junior to look out for is Kere Alagoa aged 14yrs.
As part of effort to support chess growth in the country, the Nigerian Chess Federation NCF has thrown their weight on the BYSCA to ensure that this month’s showpiece not only gets rated by the world’s governing body for chess FIDE but also has gone further to license over 50 new players out of which 30 are junior players 20 years and below.
